English Buccaneers

Background

The English arrived in the West Indies after the French however, they were able to establish a much larger presence in the New World due to capturing the island of Jamaica in the early 1650s and establishing the buccaneer haven of Port Royal. From there they were able to launch successive raids onto the Spanish Main which dealt severe blows to an already weakened Spain in Europe.
